Upon the announced resignation of Republican Party of Texas Chair Tom Mechler on Saturday, May 20, first reported here by RagingElephantsRadio.com, the suspected handpicked successor of Mechler, Rick Figueroa, was the first to announce his candidacy for the vacated post via social media.
Figueroa is little-known with a scant record of GOP activism. RERresearch has started compiling what information we can about Mr. Figueroa that we feel is pertinent to the fast-approaching election for interim state party chairman.
Mr. Figueroa reportedly has served in an advisory role for Hispanic engagement for the RPT. The video shows Figueroa giving a featured speech at one of the Hispanic engagement listening tour events being promoted by the RPT. This event was held in San Antonio just days before Mechler announced he was quitting.
Some interesting things to watch for in the video would be when Figueroa goes to the Bible before the largely Hispanic audience (you have to show Biblical knowledge, don’t ya know?) and continually misspeaks while attempting to tell the story of Jonathan and his armor-bearer defeating the Philistines found in 1 Samuel 14. Although the audio is very poor, it seems Figueroa is repeatedly saying “the Pharisees”.
Figueroa claims to have been at the White House recently where Vice President Pence informed and assured him that Dodd-Frank will be repealed. And, he says he had the opportunity to brief President Trump’s chief of staff on the progress of Hispanic engagement by the Texas GOP.
