RERsports -- BYU GIVES UP INDEPENDENCE TO BE THE SAVIOR OF THE BIG 12 (VIDEO)

Brigham Young University (BYU) is one of four universities that have accepted invitations from the Big 12 college athletic conference to join after the announced departure of the University of Texas – Austin and the University of Oklahoma for the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

George “El Conservador” Rodriguez is an original RER broadcast activist. According to the BYU alum, the independent status of BYU (meaning they belonged to no conference) was considered sacred in Provo, Utah.  That independence was discarded with the decision to join the Big 12.  Why would BYU go this route?

As an independent, BYU had the liberty to craft one of the toughest athletic schedules in the nation, yearly. They always had this in their favor when being considered for national rankings and bowl game invitations. “Hey, we run the toughest schedule in the country!”  They’ve given up that chip to join a conference that is on life support.
