Texas Speaker of the House, Joe Straus, has been the prime nemesis of the LM (liberty movement) since his election in 2009 with the tally of 11 Republicans and 65 Democrats. He has held firm to power since then, thrashing any opposition to his office. When authentic conservative challengers emerged in 2011, 2013, and 2015 Straus, with the unbending support of the Establishment plutocrats, left them in the condition of mincemeat.
Currently, a whole lot of whispering is going on in the Houston area that those who once were staunch supporters of Straus may be losing some of their enthusiasm for his continued reign.
Ed Hubbard is the general counsel for the Harris County Republican Party. Being a lifetime GOP activist, Hubbard’s political associates and circles blend from distinct faction to distinct faction. His profession as a top appellate court lawyer gives him access to the highest echelon of Texas business, law, and politics. His grassroots approach to political activism has earned him allies in the LM.
Appearing on RagingElephantsRadio.com, Hubbard stated, “I’m sensing that there may finally be some groundswell to do something about the House leadership after this session is over.”
Hubbard is not sure that Gov. Abbott would call a special session to push the issue of weak House leadership. However, he went on to report, “For the first time I’m hearing a number of people complain about the leadership of the House from more Establishment people. I’m beginning to hear it from other factions of the party to where when you start hearing those rumblings, together with what you all in the liberty movement have been talking about, there may finally be some action to change the leadership the next time around.”
In the RERhotclip, Hubbard goes on to discuss the primary reasons for the discontentment among the well-to-do donors of the party with a surprising emphasis on school finance and reform.
The 2017 Texas Legislative Session is already getting failing grades with the prospect of a special session being called looming for next week. Perhaps more so than any of the previous Straus-led sessions, the Texas House is being shown for what it is – a collection of center-left Republicans in Name Only (RINOs). In previous sessions, the reality was that the Texas Senate was even more leftist than the House. However, with RINOs being sent to the election rubbish bin in recent-past primaries, the Senate is now decidedly more conservative with a more aggressive, and more conservative Lt. Governor. The curtains have been entirely pulled back for all to see how the House is the true place of residence for bottom feeders.
This past March The Texas Pastors Council delivered the Toilet Seat Awards to Texas senators that opposed and voted against Senate Bill 6 the “bathroom bill” on its way to passage by the upper chamber. In their presentation video, the only Republican to receive an award at the time was Speaker Joe Straus for his mere public statements of opposition to the bill. The pastors literally called out Straus by name, and award him the toilet seat, with full knowledge of who he is and how he governs. This marks a dramatic change in the church’s political posture and gravitas.
If the Establishment is indeed losing their enchantment with Straus, coupled with the new zeal from church leaders to bring Straus down, LM activists and voters may have a real chance to see their long-uttered prayers answered and the end of the Straus reign of tyrannical terror under the Pink Dome.
