On Monday, May 2, 2016, RagingElephantsRadio.com received word via email from Republican Party of Texas Communications Coordinator, Michael Joyce, that our application for media credentials to cover the 2016 state convention in Dallas had been denied.
Here is the Joyce response in its entirety:
Denied. You can contact email@example.com if you’d like to secure a booth or you can buy a guest pass here:https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2016-republican-party-of-texas-state-convention-f-tickets-20983113056
Republican Party of Texas
Statement from RagingElephantsRadio.com:
In 2014, RagingElephantsRadio.com took the unprecedented and historical step of covering the Republican Party of Texas State Convention in Fort Worth, wall to wall. RER was the first media organization to provide live, audio-streamed coverage of the platform floor debate, literally blanketing the convention floor with reporters. Perhaps for the first time in Texas GOP history, full entry was given to any citizen of Texas that wanted to observe the RPT political process.
RER was able to provide this service to the citizens of Texas in 2014 because we were granted media credentials. We weren’t one year old, yet.
Now, as we approach our third anniversary, we are denied an application that requested 15 passes for RER team members.
The pettiness of this denial shows clearly the animosity that the current RPT leadership has for liberty media, the liberty movement, and any organization that doesn’t “carry the water” for the Establishment.
RagingElephantsRadio.com has produced interviews with Lt. Governors of Texas, numerous U.S. Congressmen, state senators and representatives, Texas Land and Ag Commissioners, county judges, mayors and city council members, too many candidates to tally, and LM activists of all stripes. We’ve even interviewed current Texas GOP Chair Tom Mechler. Yet, somehow, the RPT doesn’t consider RER media.
How odd, that the party of “personal responsibility” (as Assoc. Legal Counsel Eric Opiela has put it) doesn’t believe in freedom of the press – especially if its coverage is unfavorable to the incumbent administration. We wonder if the Republican National Committee will deny national convention media credentials to the staff of MSNBC? We wonder if the Democratic National Committee will deny national convention media credentials to the staff of Fox News?
Chairman Tom Mechler rivals Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus, when it comes to despicable values and stirring up the passions and determination of the GOP base to see him run out of office. Perhaps only one officeholder in the Texas GOP, besides Mechler, has created such disdain for their very existence so quickly – in less than a year of holding office. That would be Straus, himself.
This is political persecution, not retribution. Plain and simple. Attempted retribution against the press rarely results in anything productive for the persecutor, and usually results in deeper pain for that, or those, individual(s) that aspire to control the creation of content and free-flow of journalistic information.
Once again, you see the face and actions of the Texas plutocracy. It is not hidden.
Once again, you see who’s most feared by the Texas plutocracy. A liberty-driven press, and RagingElephantsRadio.com.
RER will not be muscled. RER will not be intimidated. RER will NOT be “denied”.
En garde, Chairman Mechler.
