CTA – May 22, 2015 – Taking Action Against the Waco Tragedy

What is the CTA about?

Following the tragedy in Waco, 170 individuals were arrested, charged with participating in organized crime, and given $1 million dollar bails.  Although there are currently insufficient details to determine exactly what happened at twin Peaks, there is ZERO DOUBT that the majority of the 170 individuals are not responsible for any violence.  The majority of individuals that were arrested do not have a criminal record.

This was a Confederation of Clubs and Independents meeting solely intended to discuss legal and political issues. It was not, as has been reported, a gang meeting to discuss turf.  COC meetings have been occurring in Texas and nationwide for decades without a single violent incident. The myth being purported is simply false.

AUSTIN — Two Texas Republican lawmakers nearly got into a fist fight on the state House floor late Sunday night after a priority of anti-abortion activists surprisingly failed to make it onto the calendar ahead of a key deadline.

Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, got in the face of Rep. Byron Cook, R-Corsicana, at around 9:30 p.m., shortly after Senate Bill 575 died in the last pre-deadline Calendars Committee meeting on a 7-7 vote.

Three Republicans — Reps. Sarah Davis, Debbie Riddle and Patricia Harless — joined with minority Democrats to oppose the bill, which …….. read more here.

State Rep. Jonathan Stickland has released portions of an audio recording of a police interrogation of his nemesis state Rep. Joe Pickett.

Pickett’s staffer, who used a fake name, called …….. read more here.

State Rep. Jonathan Stickland has an audio recording he said could prove that he was set up.

On Friday, Stickland released an audio file from earlier in the session that he said is a recording of a staffer for state Rep. #TXLEGE set to pass $3 BILLION Higher Ed Slush Fund

“Tuition Revenue Bonds” are a boondoggle we addressed during last year’s Attorney General race.  They create a ‘university construction’ fund that is ultimately backed by Texas taxpayers.  Naturally, our conservative Texas Legislature would reject such foolishness out of hand…right?!?

Sadly, that isn’t the case.

HB 100 (Zerwas) would …….. read more here.
